Meet Our Team - Steve

Today, I want to introduce you to Steve Yoder.

Steve is the President of The Ohio Floor Company. He is the original founder and owner of the company for its 38 year history. Steve has been happily married to Ellen for 38 years. They are the proud parents of 5 grown children and 10 grandchildren.

When asked how he likes to spend his time when not at the office, Steve said, “I like to travel with my wife, hunt and fish with family and friends, and read any chance I get.”

An interesting fact you may not know about Steve is he was a partner in a business when he was just 18 years old. He has been self-employed and a business owner ever since.

When asked what Steve enjoys most about his job, “Being able to take a floor that is a blank canvas and seeing the skill of our people making it into something that the customer is pleased and excited about,” he says. “The interaction with employees and customers is also very rewarding,” Steve adds.

What is your favorite job completed by The Ohio Floor Company? Steve replied, “That is a tough question to answer. I have been at this a long time, but here are a couple that have always stood out to me: A home we did in Miami, Florida. I have such good memories of the time spent with the crews; it was such a fun time spent in the Sunshine State. The time we worked on the State House renovations in Columbus, being able to be part of such a high-profile job was very exciting. The company has had the privilege to work with Connor Sports and the NCAA on many Regional and Final Four Floors for the March Madness Tournament, but that first Men’s Final Four floor we did that was used in the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2012 will always be special. Doing work at that level and seeing our work on national TV is pretty cool.”

The other job Steve mentioned was the work the company did for Mr. and Mrs. Schottenstein, “Working for such high-profile people is always exciting. They challenged us with a request to inlay leather squares into their floor. Being able to provide the customer with such a unique floor is very rewarding.”

To finish up our conversation with Steve he was asked the following two questions. What is one of your favorite quotes and if you could have dinner with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why?

“Problems are the guardians of success,” is the quote Steve shared. And as far as who he would like to eat a meal with, Steve said “Apart from my Lord Jesus Christ, it would have to be former president Ronald Reagan. He became president when I was 20 years old, and I remember his leadership and how he brought a new atmosphere to the nation. He was able to bring opposing parties together. I would like to ask him about leadership.”
