Sports Flooring Maintenance
Long Term Maintenance
One of the most appealing aspects of your new flooring is its lifespan, but once you’ve made this investment, it’s important to protect it through regular upkeep and maintenance. Here’s how The Ohio Floor Company can help.
Recoating: A very light sanding or the application of a recoat bonding agent begins the recoating process. When done early enough, this will allow your floors to go without a more costly refinishing for a much longer time. Sports surfaces can take a beating, so keeping a fresh coat of finish on your floor can prevent the wood from taking the brunt of the wear and tear. We recommend a yearly maintenance coat for regularly used floors.
Refinishing: A careful sanding process removes all old finishes and makes the floor look like “new” wood. This fresh surface is stained with the desired color, or left natural. Next, sealer is applied to the surface and any desired game lines or artwork are painted on the floor. Finally, the surface is given several applications of clear coat in a gloss finish. This process usually takes about 2 weeks for an average sized-gymnasium. Sanding and refinishing should occur every 10-15 years, or sooner depending on wear and tear.
Repairs: Installation errors, long-term wear and tear, and wood’s natural changes with humidity: all these factors may necessitate repair from time to time. Our experienced craftsmen can tackle buckling, crowning, scratches and dents, fading, and warping.
Scrubbing: An intensive cleaning performed on synthetic & rubber sports surfaces, as well as VCT & LVT flooring, which removes dirt, shoe marks, and scuff marks.
Repainting: For poured urethane sports floors, a complete repainting is available. Typically this is done every 5-10 years.
