Danielle was looking to install new hardwood flooring in her living room, dining room, master bedroom, hallway, and staircase. The biggest challenge on this project was making sure that the new flooring was level with the existing flooring where the two met. For example, the top of the existing staircase was level with the existing flooring — meaning that any new flooring installed on top would cause a lip. We were also up against Ohio building codes to make sure the new flooring was installed properly.
To solve the issue at the top of the stairs, our engineering team was able to slightly raise the top stair tread, making sure it stayed within code regulations, and used a thinner wood to make sure it was level with the existing floor. Once installed, the stairs blended seamlessly into the rest of the flooring. Danielle also requested a specific custom stain blend for her floors. We were able to create the perfect combination that looked great on her 2-1/4” Red Oak hardwoods.
In the end, Danielle’s home looks stunning with her custom stained Red Oak hardwood floors. The new hardwood on the stairs blends smoothly into the existing flooring, and you’d never know there was a height difference. By leaning on our engineering and finishing crews’ expertise, we were able to deliver exactly what the customer was looking for.
